Chocolate is a sound
that Lacks the capacity
to paint the sweetness of that Dark-fleshed butter of fancy Taste
Beautiful and broken in time
Chocolate sounds like
A bunch of messy smudges
Around a little kid’s mouth
Smeared all over his stained tooth
Or all up in her grubby hands
Mostly,
Those stubby white hands that belong
To a body with freckles and pigtails.
Not chocolate.
