Guatemala
Guatemala – with its mountainous forest highlands and jungle plains and its rich indigenous culture – is one of the most fascinating countries to visit not only in Latin America, but in the entire world. This country has over 8,0000 plant species -distributed over 19 different eco-systems – which range from mangrove forests on both coasts to the pine forest interior mountains and the cloud forest of the higher altitudes. Guatemala is not only home to fascinating Mayan culture but is also home to a small Black population in Livingston and Puerto Barrios, the focus of the BLAC FOUNDATION’S interest. For more about this population see Dr. E. Powe’s The Lore of the Caribbean, Part I: the Black Caribs .
