With a population of over 29 million souls, the Republic of Tanzania (with its capital at Dar Es Salaam) is located in coastal Eastern Africa just to the south of Kenya. Though its official languages are Kiswahili and English, there are a large number of other languages (over 90) that are still spoken as maternal languages. BLACFOUNDATION interest here includes all of these groups, but is particularly interested in the Afro-Shirazi populations of Zanzibar and Pemba.
