On June 29th, 2024 Dr. Ed Powe presented a paper entitled “An Introduction to Black Martial Arts” at the WISLI Student Conference in Madison, Wisconsin. At the end of his paper he called for descriptions of Black Martial Arts that members of the audience might be aware of. The top photo above deals with Cosic Combat Yoga from Tamil Nadu, India, and the second with Sharo (Fulani flogging) from Kano, Nigeria. On the same day Dr. Powe moderated a panel discussion dealing entitled “Bridging the Cultural Gap.” A luta continua!
